We all recognize that various artistic forms inspire and enrich each other, leading to collective evolution. In this spirit, TAOFESTIVAL is a music & underwater festival that emerges as a harmonious convergence of culture, art, and environmental consciousness. Spanning a diverse spectrum of music genres—from Indie Thai to Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Electro, and House—the festival seamlessly integrates dance, performance, visual art, mapping, and street art, all while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
In its last edition in 2017, the festival featured about 100 international artists across four stunning locations, scheduled for three days and three nights on the beautiful Koh Tao.
“Nothing is lost, nothing is created. Everything is transformed." As the famous Lavoisier principle goes, we aim to demonstrate the beauty we can create from our waste.
Star Board, the global leader in Stand Up Paddle in Bangkok, will be our partner in maintaining cleanliness at the site after beach parties, conducting beach clean-up sessions following each event. With the assistance of volunteers, we will actively engage the crowd by providing recycling bin bags and implementing either a returnable rubbish tax or offering reward incentives.
We are dedicated to minimizing the use of plastic. Tao Festival will exclusively permit its stalls to utilize biodegradable disposables or reusable cups and plates. For example, snacks will be served on plates crafted from banana leaves, accompanied by biodegradable cutlery and glasses.
Compost toilets utilizing rice husk or sawdust emerge as the most efficient and ecologically sound solution for the island, enabling us to conserve vast quantities of water. As such, we plan to construct 60 compost toilets made from bamboo at the festival's nighttime site. These toilets will be adorned with illustrations by Cart’1 depicting the natural cycle of things, serving both functional and educational purposes.
We also provide recycling bins with a color-coded system to encourage people to separate their food waste from other recyclable materials (such as organic waste, cans, and glass) for composting.
The Ocean School utilizes festival buildings for its classes throughout the rest of the year. This responsible eco-village will offer workshops and school interventions aimed at educating both locals and tourists about our collective responsibility for ecological preservation. Through these initiatives, we seek to foster awareness and inspire action towards sustainable practices, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with our environment for generations to come.
